Bulk Oil Trade
Through its subsidiaries Olix is active in the trade in bulk of olive oil, pomace oil, semi refined oils and oleins.
It is actively engaged in both buying and selling all of the above products and is a permanent buyer and seller of all grades of olive oil and by products.
Through its plant in Patras the company produces oleins and other products out of Olive oil production byproducts.
In this the company expects to become soon the largest single buyer of pomace oil in Greece from June onwards.
Oleins are a by-product of alkaline refining of crude oils.
Crude Oil usually contains large amounts of free fatty acids. In order to be used in edible applications we need to refine it. The refining consists of processes like neutralization with alkali solutions, bleaching and deodorization. One of the by-products of alkaline refining is soapstock. Acidification of soapstock using sulphuric acid gives Oleins.
Oleins are used for producing laundry soap, as an important ingredient in making animal feed formulations, or various resins or biodiesel.
